Paying for further studies - university, TAFE, private providers

If you are considering further studies, you should become familar with the costs of study and different loan schemes.

What will they charge me for?

  • Tuition fees - the cost of the course

  • Student Services fee - cost of support services such as student counselling, student union, 

  • Materials fee - uniforms, books, stationery, special lab equipment or other equipment necessary for the course

How much will it all cost me?

How much you will pay for tuition depends on: the type of course, the type of institution and the category of student. 

TAFE costs

Example: The Diploma of Graphic Design (2 year course) a Bendigo TAFE will cost:

  • $5,839.24 for the total course (government subsidised) or $1,168.20 if you hold a Concession card

  • Plus materials fee $413.71 and a consumables fee of $212.52

University costs


Different types of institutions have different fees and loan schemes you can access. 

TAFE - offer Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses such as Certificates and Diplomas (supported by State Governments)

  • How much do TAFE courses cost?

  • Financial support available: some free courses in Victoria, concession tuition for eligible students, VET-FEE HELP loan​

Public universities - offer Diplomas and Bachelor Degrees in a range of fields (supported by Federal Government)

  • Financial support available: ​

Private or Independent providers - provide a range of qualifications, usually focused in one specific field
